Frequently Asked Questions About Homeopathy

Q: What is Homeopathy?

A: Homeopathy is a form of wholistic medicine that encourages and stimulates the body’s natural healing mechanism. It is a popular system of medicine that has been used for over 200 years. It has been proven to be safe, gentle and effective. The homeopathic remedies (medicine) are completely natural, made from plants, animals, minerals and metals.

Homeopathy is different in that it is not a one size fits all approach, but it is individualized. Each person manifests his or her ailment in a unique and slightly different way; two people with the same condition will not necessarily receive the same homeopathic medicine. The journey towards healing is possible, and homeopathy can provide the support of gentle and safe medicine, as well as the comfort of knowing your concerns are heard and addressed.

Homeopathy is not a quick fix. In many cases our body becomes very dynamic when embarking on the healing journey with homeopathy, therefore over time and follow ups, the remedies may change, but usually one remedy at a time, is used.

Q: What training has a Homeopath received?

A: A Professional Homeopathic Physician has completed a 3-4 year training program at an accredited Homeopathic College. They study anatomy, pathology, nutrition, intense advanced homeopathic studies and they have extensive clinic experience. Yearly continuing education is also mandatory.

Q: Who can benefit?

A: Homeopathy is ideal for all stages of life and for a wide range of conditions. It is gentle, effective, and safe for everyone including infants, children, pregnant mothers, and even pets. The medicinal remedies do not interfere with any medications, and they work with the specific system (or Vital Force) to restore it back to balance and strength. Homeopathy treats the whole system, not just specific symptoms, this way allowing everyone to benefit from its healing capabilities.

Q: What to expect at the first (initial) appointment?

A: The first appointment will last approximately 2 hours. I am interested in the details of your health and body as a whole; I want to understand how you experience illness on a physical and mental-emotional level. Your body continually expresses patterns and unique qualities during sickness and health as seen, not only in your ailment, but in your sleeping, cravings, digestion, appetite, perspiration, feelings, stress responses and expressions.

The totality of your symptoms will be matched to a similar homeopathic medicine/remedy which helps stimulate your body into healing. I may take up to 48 hours to consider all aspects of your case and recommend your homeopathic medicine.

Q: How long is a course of treatment?

A: This depends very much on the type of illness, and every case is different. In general, some reaction is expected to be seen after the first month or so.

Homeopathy works not on masking the symptoms, but on treating the root of the cause.

A very slowly developing health issue will not disappear overnight, but other health complaints may be resolved quickly. For example, an individual who has been suffering from IBS or Fibromyalgia for 10 years will experience healing slowly and gradually, but a child with an ear infection or throat infection may experience results in just few of days.

Q: What are homeopathic medicines made from?

A: Homeopathic medicines come from a variety of natural sources including plants, animals, minerals and metals. They are highly diluted and vigorously shaken solutions. There are currently over 4,500 homeopathic medicines regulated by Canadian Homeopathic Pharmacies who are required by law to follow strict guidelines and provide DIN numbers.

Q: How to take a homeopathic medicine

A: Read carefully the prescription.

The pellets are made of milk sugar with the medicine on the outer surface, so it is preferable that you do not touch the pellets. From a vial, please drop the pellets directly into your mouth, under the tongue. From a small/tiny bag, use a teaspoon to remove the remedy.

Allow the medicinal remedy to dissolve in your mouth. Do not chew or swallow. The medicine is absorbed through the mucus of your mouth, therefore before taking the remedy, make sure your mouth is free of any aroma/taste.

Take your remedy 20 to 30 minutes away from food or drink, brushing teeth, using perfumes (before and after).

Q: What are antidotes?

A: Antidotes are substances which have been found to alter or cancel the action of the homeopathic remedies.

Some examples of these are: Menthol, Camphor, Eucalyptus, Tiger Balm, Hair dye, some Dental treatments, and sometimes some essential oils.

While receiving homeopathic treatment, it is suggested to avoid or minimize your exposure to these substances. It is important to inform your Homeopath in case you are exposed to any of these substances, since your Homeopath would adjust the repetition of the remedy, to make the homeopathic treatment effective.
